Tokina 11 20 filtri nd

Filter and holder solutions for the Tokina AT-X 11-20 f/2.8 PRO DX

ND filters are a fundamental tool in landscape photography and other disciplines – you can learn more about their use in this article. If you want to use ND, GND and polarising filters with the Tokina 11-20 f / 2.8, NiSi has the perfect solution for you. Whether you want to use screw-in filters or if you are ready for the world of square filters.

Screw-in filters ND1000, ND64 and Polariser

If you want to use screw-in filters, the only logical choice is our high quality, multi coated, lens grade optical glass filters. The Tokina 11-20 lens has an optical pattern in 14 elements in 12 groups, with 3 aspherical elements and 3 very low dispersion glass elements. The optical glass used by Tokina is of high quality, therefore it is necessary to use filters of equivalent quality.

Using filters with an optical quality lower than one’s lens makes the whole system inefficient, because the light passes through the weak element and so critical image data never reaches the sensor. NiSi uses only lens grade optical glass, equal only to the glass used in very low dispersion optical elements. At these links and below you can find the ND1000 (10 stops) and the NiSi polariser. For your Tokina 11-20 f/2.8 choose 82mm filters.

ND64 + CPL filter

NiSi exclusively produces a filter with unique characteristics: an ND64 6 Stop 2-in-1 with polariser included. It is an ND64 filter with 6 stop absorption and by rotating the filter it is also possible to adjust the polarisation! Available in various circular sizes here.

NiSi also produces two Variable ND filters (filters that vary in density, through rotation from 1-5 and 5-9 Stops.) Read more about the Variable ND filter here.

Filter holder holder for Tokina AT-X 11-20mm f/2.8

If you prefer the freedom of use provided by square filters, you have a whole range of products of the highest quality available. The first step is to choose the filter holder which screws to the lens thread and allows you to insert 100mm wide ND (or GND) filters. NiSi produces the V6 and V5 Pro generally recognised as the most advance filter holder system available today, with some unique features. Often imitated but never equaled:

  • 3 filter slots for 2mm thick 100mm square filters.
  • Aeronautical aluminium CNC machined construction
  • Teflon coated side pressure slides for perfect sliding
  • Polarising filter included with external control (even with filters mounted)
  • 82, 77, 72 and 67mm rings included in the kit
  • The NiSi V6 has a more compact and lighter design, updated filter holder slots and the option to lock the rotation of the holder.

Both the NiSi V6 and V5 PRO are also compatible with the Tokina 11-20 f/2.8, as well as with all the other threaded lenses, but it is necessary to add the specific adapter ring since the barrel of the Tokina 11-20 is unique and is not compatible with the standard ring. The V6 and V5 Pro are available with both standard and Landscape polarisers. You can find a review showing the differences between the two polarisers in here. In addition, the NiSi V6 with Landscape Polariser includes a practical Lens Cap to protect the ring and polariser when mounted on the lens.

ND and GND filters – Tokina 11-20 f/2.8

Once you have chosen the holder (with polariser included), you just have to choose the ND or GND filters to start with or add to your kit. The best choices to start with ND filters fall on ND64 (6 stops) and ND1000 (10 stops). For GND filters, the Medium 3 stop is an excellent starting point. Click here for the entire range of ND and NiSi GND filters for the 100mm system.

If choosing is not your forte, NiSi has created kits that include the NiSi V6 holder. All kits include the V6 but remember to add the adapter ring for the Tokina 11-20 f / 2.8, it is not included in the kits.
