JetMag Pro magnetic Matte Box
A matte box stops the light that should never reach your lens. This one weighs 140 g, clips onto a dedicated JetMag Pro adapter ring and leaves your 82MAG and 95MAG magnetic filters exactly as they are. No rods, no rails, no cage.

What it’s really for
Stray light is the quickest way to lose contrast. The matte interior absorbs reflections before they reach the glass, reducing flare and veiling, and the carbon fibre top flag shields the front element from high sun and set lights. Everything else is designed to stay out of your way.
- 140 g. Light enough not to unbalance the gimbal or weigh down a handheld rig.
- Removable carbon fibre flag. Off and back on in seconds; if it gets damaged, you replace it on its own.
- Vents on both sides. Less wind resistance when you shoot from a moving vehicle or on the coast.
- Clamp mount. Locks onto its ring in seconds and stays square to the lens. No threads to find, no tools.
- Your filters, unchanged. The whole JetMag Pro 82MAG and 95MAG range still attaches and locks.
82MAG or 95MAG: which adapter ring do I need?
The matte box doesn’t screw onto the lens: it clips onto a Matte Box adapter ring, which you choose by your lens’s thread. These aren’t the standard JetMag Pro rings: they have the clamp mount, so the ones you already own won’t hold the matte box.

82mm is the only size that appears twice. Choose 95MAG if you have, or plan to get, an 86 or 95mm lens, or if your 82mm goes to 16mm and you use a variable ND on it (see the test below). Otherwise choose 82MAG. One ring per lens is all you need: matte box and filters stay the same.
How wide can you go? The vignetting test
NiSi tested the matte box on a Sony 16-35mm f/2.8, 82mm thread, one of the most demanding full frame zooms. These are the measured results, not a rounded-off promise.

In short: on 95MAG at 16mm there was no vignetting at all, in any combination tested. On 82MAG the limit is 16mm: with one filter it’s clean, with two there’s slight darkening in the corners (gone with the lens profile correction in Photoshop), and the VND vignettes clearly because it’s a two-element filter, so thicker. From 17mm up everything tested was clean, VND included.
Lenses with 67, 72 or 77mm threads only fit 82MAG. The test was done on an 82mm lens: for those threads at 16mm we don’t have a measured figure yet.
The two kits
Both kits include the matte box and the bag: the set of adapter rings changes, and they cost the same. The choice depends only on your lenses and how wide you shoot.

Cinema lenses without a thread
Many cinema lenses have no thread. The 95mm Cinema Clamp ring tightens onto the front barrel of any cinema lens with a 95mm outer diameter, and brings the matte box and the whole JetMag Pro range to a cinema rig.
NiSi cinema lenses do have a thread
NiSi Athena Prime lenses have a 77mm front thread: they use the 77mm to 82MAG ring, included in the 82MAG kit. The Aureus Prime has an 86mm thread and uses the 86mm to 95MAG ring.
Only 95mm lenses without a thread?
The matte box and the 95mm Cinema Clamp are all you need. Once mounted nothing changes: the same magnetic filters you use for photos attach to the same matte box, and the patented lock holds the stack together while the rig moves.
How to mount it
- Screw the Matte Box ring onto your lens.
- Clip the matte box onto the ring, with the clamp.
- Add the filters behind it, magnetic as always.
No tools and nothing to unscrew when you change lens: just move the matte box onto the next lens’s ring.

The matte box doesn’t replace filters, it sits in front of them: ND and polariser for landscape, variable ND and Black Mist for video, Black Magic Diffusion or Cross Screen 4x when you’re after a specific look. FAQ
Can I use the JetMag Pro adapter rings I already have?
Not for the matte box. The Matte Box rings have the clamp mount that holds it, so they’re a different part. Your rings still work for filters on their own, and the filters work with both.
Does it work wider than 16mm?
16mm is the widest focal length NiSi has tested, so that’s as far as we can give you a measured figure. If you shoot at 14mm or wider, write to us with your lens and filters before you buy.
My lens has a 58mm or 62mm thread. Is there a ring?
No. The Matte Box rings start at 67mm: 67, 72, 77, 82, 86 and 95mm, plus the 95mm Cinema Clamp. For smaller threads, contact us before you buy.
Do I need a ring for each lens?
Yes, one for each thread you use. That’s the point of the system: matte box and filters stay the same, only the ring changes.
Is it only for video?
No. Flare control matters just as much in a backlit landscape. One matte box covers both, which is why it takes ND, polarisers, VND, mist and diffusion filters from the same range.
