JetMag Pro – Matte Box Adapter Rings

Choose the magnetic side, then the thread

The JetMag Pro Matte Box mounts on a dedicated adapter ring, not on a standard JetMag Pro ring. The lens side is threaded and screws onto your lens; the filter side is the familiar JetMag Pro magnetic surface, so your existing 82MAG or 95MAG filters still snap on and lock as they always have.

82MAG or 95MAG?

The magnetic side decides which family of filters and which matte box mount you are on, so pick it first. In the menu it appears as 82mm for 82MAG and 95mm for 95MAG.

• 82MAG – lens threads 67mm, 72mm, 77mm, 82mm
• 95MAG – lens threads 82mm, 86mm, 95mm, plus the 95mm Cinema Clamp

If your lens is 82mm

82mm exists in both families, and two things decide it:

• You own, or expect to own, an 86mm or 95mm lens: choose 95MAG, so one family covers everything
• You shoot at 16mm with a variable ND: choose 95MAG. On a Sony 16-35mm f/2.8, which has an 82mm thread, NiSi measured no vignetting at 16mm with the matte box and a 95MAG VND. On 82MAG the same shot vignettes noticeably, and only clears from 17mm

If neither applies, choose 82MAG.

Lenses with a 67mm, 72mm or 77mm thread only fit 82MAG. The test was run on an 82mm lens, so we have no measured result for those threads at 16mm yet.

Cinema lenses without a filter thread

The 95mm Cinema Clamp clamps onto the front barrel of cinema lenses with a 95mm outer diameter, so a cine lens with no filter thread can still take the matte box and the JetMag Pro filter range. It is the only ring here that is not included in either kit.

One ring per lens

The point of the system is that the matte box and the filters stay the same and only the ring changes. Add a ring for each lens you shoot and everything else moves across with you. If you are starting from scratch, the Matte Box Kit comes with the matte box, the full set of threaded rings for one family, and the bag.
