Which kit should I buy?

Start from your lenses. Both kits cost the same, so what matters is which threads you need to cover and how wide you shoot.

82MAG covers 67mm, 72mm, 77mm and 82mm filter threads and gives you four rings. 95MAG covers 82mm, 86mm and 95mm. If you own, or plan to own, an 86mm or 95mm lens, take 95MAG. Lenses with a 67mm, 72mm or 77mm thread only fit 82MAG.

If your lens is 82mm

The 82mm thread is the one size that appears in both kits, and here the wide end decides it. On a Sony 16-35mm f/2.8, which has an 82mm thread, NiSi measured no vignetting at 16mm with the matte box and a 95MAG filter, variable ND included. On 82MAG the same shot vignettes noticeably with a VND at 16mm and clears from 17mm. If you shoot your 82mm lens at 16mm with a variable ND, take 95MAG. Otherwise 82MAG.

Cinema lenses

Neither kit includes the 95mm Cinema Clamp for cinema lenses with a 95mm outer diameter. If you only shoot cine lenses, the matte box plus the 95mm Cinema Clamp from the Matte Box Adapter Rings page is all you need. Take the 95MAG kit only if you also shoot lenses with an 82mm, 86mm or 95mm thread.
