Sigma’s Art series marked a turning point for this famous photographic lens brand. Previous lenses in the line have been recognised as the best in their respective categories, and the Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 DG HSM Art is no exception.

Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 Art: Features

The lens has important characteristics, especially optically and in the choice of aspherical lenses, with low dispersion (FLD and SLD) and with anti-reflective treatments.

The optical glass used by Sigma is obviously of the highest quality; the lens has been designed to give the best results with cameras from 50megapixels and higher.

This philosophy is shared by NiSi, who offer only the highest quality lens grade optical glass filters and anti-glare and infrared light treatments that prevent colour cast and other aberrations.

The bulbous structure of the front lens element prevents the use of screw-in filters (there is no thread), but not using filters on a lens of this quality would be such a shame. NiSi has therefore created a special filter holder.

There are two types of Sigma 14-24 f / 2.8 Art lenses. A version for Nikon (F-mount) and Canon (EF Mount), a second version for Sony E-Mount and Leica L-Mount. The first version is usually known by it’s full name Sigma 14-24mm f / 2.8 DG HSM Art, whilst the Sony/Leica version is the Sigma 14-24mm f / 2.8 DG DN Art. It is critically important to take in to account the the abbreviations HSM or DN as these will allow you to correctly identify which NiSi holder system is compatible with your version of the lens.

NiSi has created two filter holders for the Sigma 14-24; one for the Nikon/Canon version and one for the Sony/Leica version. The two versions are not interchangeable so you need to choose the right one for your lens variation.

The version Sony/Leica variant has no vignetting, however the Nikon/Canon variant has a slight vignette at shorter focal lengths due to the larger size of the lens. At the bottom of this article, you will find an explanatory video along with sample photos on the product page.

ND and GND filters compatible with Sigma 14-24 f/2.8

150mm filter kit for Sigma 14-24 f/2.8

An alternative solution to purchasing single filters is to purchase a kit. The different 150mm Filter kits offer savings compared purchasing the filters individually. These kits cannot be modified because they are preconfigured.

Polariser for Sigma 14-24 f/2.8 Art

A polariser is included in the NiSi S5 holder package for Sigma 14-24 f/2.8 Art, and it is the exclusive patented NiSi solution to use this fundamental filter even on threadless lenses.

Two types of polarising filters are available: the Standard/Pro one and the Landscape/Enhanced one. The Landscape NC polariser, also called CPL Enhanced® NiSi, has a maximum polarisation of 99.9% * and emphasises the natural colours of the scene. It is equipped with Nano® Coating (NC) treatment which protects it and makes it completely water-repellent for easy cleaning.

*The maximum polarisation changes from scene to scene depending on the incidence of light (position of the sun) and the framed material. In fact, the polariser has an effect only on the polarised light of non-metallic surfaces. The NiSi Landscape Enhanced® polariser, in suitable situations, reaches 99.9% polarisation. Rotating it allows you to choose your preferred degree of polarisation. The NiSi Landscape Enhanced® polariser is the first choice of many professional landscape photographers.

Accessories and rings to adapt the holder to other lenses

In our camera bags, there are often many lenses, and we want to be able to use filters on all of them. To facilitate this we have created two adapter rings for the Sigma 14-24 f/2.8 HSM Art for Nikon/Canon.

The rings allow the holder to be mounted on lenses with 77 or 82mm threads. For lenses with a smaller diameter, simply use a third-party step-up ring. For example, for a lens with a 58mm front thread, you can use a step up from 58 to 77mm and then the 77mm NiSi adapter that you find below.

Due to the smaller size of the Sony/Leica version we have no adapters currently available for this version. If you own the Sony/Leica version you can swap the main adaptor with one for threaded lenses starting from 105mm.

Finally, various accessories are available, both for cleaning the filters and for transporting filters and/or the whole system. We also recommend the use of the S5 Lens Cap which allows you to keep the main adapter of the NiSi S5 holder mounted with the Polariser.
